The course is structured to offer written assessments in addition to academic and practical sessions. There are physical components to the course, such as lifting, climbing, and tugging. Men and materials are frequently transported to and from offshore projects using helicopters. Personnel competent to perform the tasks must supervise the helicopters’ safe landing and takeoff from the platforms. The goal of this training is to prepare Helicopter Landing Assistants to support HLO in the safe landing and takeoff of helicopters.

- Offshore operations including helideck specifications and design load.
- Terminology and Obstructions and clearance limits.
- Helicopter landing area marketings and visual aids.
- Emergency and Firefighting procedures and equipment.
- Ground to air radio communication procedures.
- Ground to air sinnals.
- Helicopter marshalling.
- Weather considerations.
- Refueling operations including ‘hot’ refueling.
- Helicopter start-up and shut-down.
- Emergency actions.
- Search and rescue.
